Quote of the Week

“If the man’s not there, someone else will do the work. If it doesn’t get done, maybe it’s not necessary.
If we haven’t done an inspection in seven years, maybe we don’t need an inspection.”

- Councillor Ian MacLeod
- on a proposed hiring freeze

Vyk Harnett has an eye on the Crowsnest Pass -- in more ways than one.
The enterprise started a year and a half ago, as Vyk created www.cnplive.ca as a hobby, starting with a single web camera showing a view looking out over Blairmore to the northwest. In the time since, the website has expanded to feature more cameras, more features, and a growing collection of information and pictures featuring the valley we call home.
As part of this expansion, CNP Live is looking to become a commercial venture. Currently Vyk is attempting to secure corporate sponsorship for the website so it can continue to expand and feature more community events, information, and images.
Up to four web cam images are currently featured on the site, and Vyk has ordered five new high resolution cameras to vastly improve the service in the coming months.
The new cameras will allow the website to show high quality, crisp, real-time images throughout the Crowsnest Pass.
He hopes to set up cameras in new locations, including Bellevue, Hillcrest, or the Sentinel area. You can also view time-lapse videos from any of the cameras, compressing an entire day's events into a short video.
In addition to the web cams, the CNP Live website has an ever-expanding image gallery with pictures from throughout the community, including events and wildlife. Galleries with pictures from local tourist attraction sites may be coming in the near future. The site also features information on recreational opportunities for summer or winter in the area.
CNP Live will put public service announcements on the website for non-profit organizations, allowing you to get your message out to a wider audience.
The popularity of CNP Live has been increasing in recent months, as the website is now approaching 3000 unique users every month. The website features 550 individual pages of information and images from the community. For more information, visit the site online at www.cnplive.ca.
