The Kananaskis Pro Rodeo is one of the best in western Canada, and it’s riding into the Crowsnest Pass again from April 24 to 26 at the Sports Complex in Coleman.
Joe Trotz, President of the Kananaskis Rodeo Association (KRA), invites everyone to come down and enjoy the rodeo again this year.
“We should have a pretty good rodeo,” says Trotz. “We have a good full slate of contestants again.”
The rodeo will feature Canadian champions, American riders, and many more. They will be competing in all of the traditional rodeo events, including bareback riding, saddle bronc, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, and barrel racing.
There will be a boys steer riding competition for kids, along with the return of the popular wild pony race, also for children. Mutton busting will be back for the smaller kids, and local adults will compete in the wild cow race.
There will be a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning, April 25, along with a Junior Gymkana at 10:00 a.m. The rodeo dance on Saturday night will feature Trevor Panczak and Roughstock.

One new and exciting event for local youth this year will be the opportunity to ride with a professional trick rider at the rodeo.
The KRA will be dropping off colouring pages at local schools, and youth can colour the page and enter a contest. The winner will be chosen to ride with Cassie Horner of Crazy Cowgirls Trick Riding, a professional trick rider who has been to the Canadian Finals.
The winning youth will spend part of Sunday morning with Cassie, learning about horses and trick riding, and then during the day will get to ride with her in the rodeo.
Trotz says that the KRA plan to put dirt into the Complex as soon as the Chamber of Commerce Trade Fair vacates the building on April 18, to get everything ready in time for the rodeo. The KRA’s badge drive was planned for April 18 as well.
Come on out this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to enjoy some of the best rodeo action you’ll find anywhere, at the Kananaskis Pro Rodeo.
