Quote of the Week
“The more glitter this place gets, the more money will come to it. When a film comes to town it drops a hundred grand a week.”
- Dan Stoddart
- on local film interest

The Crowsnest Pass Women’s Resource Centre first opened in 1984 as a small volunteer group manning phones for a local crisis hotline. Over the last 25 years it has grown significantly into a source of caring and assistance of all types in our community, and on Saturday, September 19 they invite you to celebrate this important anniversary.
An open house will run from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Lions Pride Hall in Blairmore on September 19. The event is open to the public, and invitations have been sent out to more than 100 people who have been involved with the Women’s Resource Centre over the years. Displays will be available about the services they offer, and everyone is welcome to come out and meet the people who have worked hard over the last 25 years to make this initiative a success.
Marion Hopkins, President of the WRC’s board, has been with them since the beginning. The Resource Centre started out with people meeting in a person’s home, but eventually, as they grew, they ended up in the provincial building in 1993.
As the WRC has grown, it has touched the lives of many people in our community.
“It’s helped people who have needed it over the years, without a doubt,” says Hopkins. “We’re just really thrilled to say we’ve been here for 25 years.”
Hopkins says that our Women’s Resource Centre has ended up fairly diverse, doing things in more areas than centre’s in larger cities do. They offer many resources for women, but also help men and families.
