Quote of the Week
“There’s not a piece of land in this Pass that’s not worth $500.”
- Councillor Ian MacLeod
- on implementing a
minimum property tax

Locally owned and operated by Darrell Sydora and family, Fantin's Funeral Chapel is home to a dedicated and professional team of employees who practice consideration with one another and with the client families they gratefully serve. Fantin's offers unparalleled assistance in all ranges of funeral services for our community and the surrounding area.
Fantin's is a resource for group counseling, support groups, community memorial projects, and more. In addition, they offer a library of materials to help with understanding and coping with grief. The employees at the funeral chapel –– Shane Collett, Michelle Dobek-Koinberg, Jeff Paulsen, and Rev. Dr. Christopher Smith –– can help ease their clients' burdens during understandably difficult times, and the business is blessed to have their services.
Previously owned by Ernie Fantin, the business was sold to Service Corporation International in 1995, who employed Darrel Sydora as manager. He then purchased the entire business in 2007, making it fully locally owned and operated.
Darrell graduated from the Alberta Funeral Service Association's School of Mortuary Science in 1996, with the highest marks of his graduating class. He received several awards and scholarships, as well as a personal invitation to attend and assist at the Cincinnatti College of Mortuary Science under the Head State Pathologist at the time, Dr. Don Douthit. Upon graduating, Darrell was given the opportunity to use his knowledge to adjudicate and further develop the science portion of the provincial mortuary program in Alberta.
With this level of expertise, it is no surprise that Fantin's Funeral Chapel received the Award of Excellence from independent survey firm J.D. Powers & Associates for the highest rated funeral home in North America in 2004 and 2006.

More than 1700 funeral homes were examined and client surveys tabulated for these surveys, making this high praise indeed. Fantin's remains in the top percentile among funeral homes, and still strives for further improvement.

Fantin's sponsors several local organizations, donating and volunteering their time to support music, charities, police and hospital events, and other local projects. The staff works with the RCMP, Victims Services, EMS, and the Medical Examiner as part of the local Emergency Response Team.
They are able to offer unsurpassed affordability for those families who choose cremation, as they have recently negotiated a new rate with their crematorium. Fantin's owns and operates the only existing columbarium in the area, and they also specialize in monument design and installation.
From traditional funeral services, a unique celebration of life, or a simple cremation, Fantin's Funeral Chapel offers the considerate, professional assistance you require. They can be reached at 403-562-8555.
Darrell and the staff at Fantin's wish the best to everyone this holiday season.
