2010 New Years Baby Sawyer Hvizdos

In the wake of a devastating pre-Christmas fire that destroyed their building and nearly everything in it, Border Building Materials is getting back on its feet and appreciating the support of the community.
Their building in the Frank Industrial Park caught fire late in the evening on Tuesday, December 22, and the blaze burned fast and long. The fire burned the entire building to the ground, and the industrial products within burned off and on for several days afterward. The inventory in the building was destroyed.
Though owner Kris Ruzek says that no decision has been made yet about where the business will ultimately be located, they are currently restarting their operations in Blairmore, at the former Westcastle Motors building on main street. As of press time, there was no definite schedule for when they would formally re-open at this new temporary location.

Local contractor Duane Reimer, of Reimer Construction, has instituted a challenge to the community and to anyone who does construction work in the Pass, a challenge to help Border Building Materials get back on its feet, and to help cover some of the costs that insurance doesn't cover.
Reimer donated $2000 to Border Building on Wednesday, January 6. "Helping them out now would be a real community gesture," he says, noting that a fire like this only strikes a community once in a long while, and that the community needs to come together when it happens.
Ruzek says that he has continued to pay his employees during the transition period, to help them out during Christmas time, and he acknowledges that there are numerous other little things and unexpected costs involved that aren't covered by insurance.
Border Building Materials had existed at their location in Frank for 12 years prior to the December 22 fire.
