No Particular Topic kicks off 2010 exhibit list

The Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery is ready for a new year of showcasing and promoting art and artistic endeavours in the community, starting with an open community art exhibit that was scheduled to open on Saturday, January 30.
The annual open show, No Particular Topic, is once again featuring a broad range of art from local and area artists. This year's show features 57 pieces from 29 different artists, including several new artists who have never been in the show before.
"The gallery belongs to the community," says manager Belinda Belseck, "so this is a show essentially for the people in the community who want to put something in. It's very good."
Participants were allowed to submit up to two pieces of artwork. No Particular Topic will run at the art gallery until March 7.
Following this open community show, the gallery will feature the annual CCHS and Livingstone School student art exhibit, Emergence. Always filled with colour and creativity, this popular show will run from March 13 to April 12.

Other exhibits planned for 2010 include a show by photographer Robert Pisko in April and May, an exhibit on the art of motherhood by Kate Hansen, Kari Lehr, and Krisztina Wood in June, and the annual community juried show in July and August. The deadline for submissions to this juried show is April 29.
The art gallery has been closed through January for annual maintenance. Belseck says that the gallery walls are repainted, everything is given a good cleaning, and it is a chance to catch up on paperwork and planning.
The squeaky clean art gallery will feature more than exhibits in 2010. Numerous workshops and events take place throughout the year, beginning with the Allied Arts Assocation's annual Chili Bowl Fest on Saturday, February 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
