Some changes may be in store for the M.D. McEachern facility, as the Crowsnest Centre closes and some local groups seek a new home.
Community Services Director Cam Mertz reported to council at their March 2 meeting that talks are continuing with Lethbridge College about potentially moving the Educational Consoritium to the MDM.
Mertz says that the Lethbridge College representatives see the potential at the facility, and that meetings will continue. He said that some renovation will be needed to meet their office space needs.
He added that the supernet, Alberta’s high speed internet system, is available at the facility. He said that plugs will have to be installed in the rooms that do not already have supernet connections.

Mertz said that his department will be talking with existing users at the MDM about the potential integration of the Consortium to the building, and how it will affect them. There will be some security issues to go through, he said, with users of Adult Education and the Consortium in the same building as youth programs.
In addition, he said, they are considering the possibility of staffing and opening the MDM on Saturdays in the future.
Mertz told council that the acoustic remedy, which has been long delayed, was expected to be finished by the end of the first week in March. He said that we will be getting a very good acoustic improvement system for the money that was spent.
