Young gymnasts with the Crowsnest Pass Gymnastics Club have been training hard, and showed off their skills at the Key City Fiesta in Cranbrook, B.C., on February 27 and 28.
Seven local athletes took part in the competition. “They just did a superb job,” says coach Rosemarie Plante, “all of them.”
The two boys in the competition, Maleki Hrycyk and Bryant Cail, competed in the Provincial Level One tier. They took part in six events –– high bar, parallel bar, vault, rings, floor, and pommell horse.
Bryant placed second overall, with two golds, two silvers, one bronze, and one fourth place. Maleki placed fourth overall, with two silvers, one bronze, and three fourth place finishes.
It was the second competition of the year for the boys, who also took part in an Edmonton event in January.

The girls took part at the Interclub level, a tier just below Provincial Level One. Each received certificates with personalized comments from the judges. It was their first competition of the year.
Brie Stella, Megan Koevoet, Anna Koevoet, Jaylene Giesbrect, and Hailey Reeve took part in the competition.
The club is planning to separate from the municipality in April and become a private gymnastics club. They will be moving from the MDM to the gym in Blairmore.
Plante says the change will be good for them, as it will give them more space and a taller ceiling, where their equipment can be used better.
“It’ll be nice to have a bigger space,” says Plante. “This is just really a wonderful thing to see.”
The gymnastics program has had 60 children enrolled consistently for the last two years, she says, and has grown to have a very strong managing team.
