The 28th annual Kananaskis Indoor Pro Rodeo is strapped in and ready to go, with a full weekend of rodeo fun, including new events, old favourites, and new entertainment to keep the whole family having fun.
The rodeo features some of the top cowboys and cowgirls in North America, working with top Kesler stock on one of the first stops in the Canadian Pro ;Rodeo Association’s circuit.
This year’s rodeo features a new rodeo clown, David Whitmoyer out of Helena, Montana. Joe Trotz, President of the Kananaskis Rodeo Association, says that they like to change the entertainment every couple years so that it stays fresh and fun for everyone.
In that same line of thinking, this year’s rodeo dance will feature a new band –– Calgary-based Rooster in a Henhouse. Trotz says that the band came highly recommended.
The rodeo will be announced by Joe Braniff, who won the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association’s Announcer of the Year award from 2001 through 2007.

The rodeo kicks of on Friday, April 23, starting at 7:00 p.m. The rodeo will again feature the high-flying escapades of the Crazy Cowgirls Trick Riders. There will also be a wild cow race, a wild horse race, a ribbon pull, boy’s steer riding, and mutton busting, on top of all the traditional professional rodeo events.
This year, the rodeo is opening up its junior gymkana event into a full-fledged mini-rodeo that is open to people of all ages, adults and children both. It will feature barrels, poles, team roping, steer daubing, goat tying, and a flag race. Spaces are limited, and entry costs $10 per event. Anyone wishing to participate can register by calling Bonnie at 403-564-5142. The mini-rodeo takes place Saturday, April 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The rodeo dance starts at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 at the Sports Complex, and a mechanical bull will be available between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m.
Main rodeo shows also take place Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
