Quote of the Week
“We are thrilled with the conditions that we have, and will be opening with next week.”
- Dave Morrison
- General Manager
Pass Powderkeg Ski Hill

After a generous downpour of natural snow last month, and round the clock efforts to produce additional man-made snow, the Pass Powderkeg Ski Hill will be opening for the season this Thursday, December 9 at 5 p.m.
According to General Manager Dave Morrison, the opening will begin with the lower mountain, with additional terrain becoming available in short order as conditions and weather allow.
“We are thrilled with the conditions that we have, and will be opening with next week,” Morrison said during an interview with the Pass Herald last Thursday.
He said the vast amounts of snow which have been dumped in the area over the past few weeks have helped greatly with the ski hill being able to open earlier than usual.
“Natural snow helped a lot, but we still have to make a lot of snow to ensure our conditions for the season,” he said.
In addition to the runs on the lower mountain, the ski lodge, rental shop and concession will all be open on Thursday.
The hill features five areas of beginner-level terrain, six areas of intermediate difficulty, and four areas of difficult terrain, in addition to a snowmobile staging area, and offers “Snow School” skiing, snowboarding and snowblading lessons to children and adults of any skill level.

The Pass Powderkeg is open from 5 to 9 p.m. from Wednesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, and is closed Monday and Tuesday.

The ski area is located on the south edge of Blairmore, and is accessible by an access road directly east of the Albert Stella Memorial Arena.
The hill is also looking to hire full and part-time Snow School instructors, lift operators, ticket office attendants, snowmakers and a lodge supervisor.
Anyone interested in any of these positions is encouraged to send a resume to info@passpowderkeg.com or fax it to 403-562-2345.
