Florence Desaunoy (left) recently sold her business, Homechek to Nikki Yanota, who will take over performing walk-throughs and check-ins for homeowners who are out of town.

Homechek, a local business which arranges visits to people’s homes while they are out of town, has recently changed hands.
Former owner Florence Desaunoy sold the business to Nikki Yanota earlier this month, to allow her to pursue other projects.
“Change is good,” said Desaunoy. “This has always been a phrase that I have repeated to myself many times over the years.”
Desaunoy said the decision to sell the business was not an easy one, but finding someone whom she is confident will do a good job taking the reins assured her that it was the right choice to make.
Desaunoy created Homecheck just over five years ago, after she had heard of a similar business in another community.
“(I) realized that with the demographics here at home changing, and more people being away in the winter as well as those who have vacation homes here, this was a business that could have potential,” she said.
“Everyone needs a holiday, and when you are away, it is important to have someone reliable to keep an eye on things.”
She said there are many people who forget to lock the door to their home, leave the stove or other appliances on, and even extreme cases where the furnace quits working and causes water pipes to burst.
“Most insurance companies require that you have someone check your home while you are away,” she said. “So with that in mind, I wanted to offer that peace of mind and confidentiality so they could enjoy their holiday without worry.”
Desaunoy thanked all of her past and present clients for making Homechek a successful venture.
“I have met some really great people through this business, and knowing that I can help them in some small way has made this very enjoyable.”

She will still be calling The Pass home, but will be pursuing other projects.
“Knowing that I have someone reliable and trustworthy to take over the reins gives me peace of mind,” she said.
Nikki Yanota has lived in the Crowsnest Pass with her husband, Gordon Yanota, for the past four years.
“I fell in love with the Crowsnest Pass during my first visit 10 years ago,” said Yanota, who spent the summer months here each year for six years prior to relocating.
She said her husband, Gordon, was born and raised here, and his parents still reside in Blairmore.
“Most people I run into are likely to know Gordon, his parents, or one of his six siblings,” she said.
Yanota is originally from Arizona, and says the change was a big one, but is happy to now call the mountains home.
She has worked as an artist and designer for several years, creating custom artwork, signage and logos for local businesses, as well as creating her own fine art.
“I am excited to be taking on this new business, and look forward to all this new year holds,” said Yanota.
All Homechek employees must pass a criminal record check prior to being hired.
Services include a walk-through of the home, checking of all doors and windows, checking heat and water, and making sure the property appears undisturbed.
Additional maintenance services such as shovelling sidewalks, cleaning, and checking on pets are also available for an additional fee.
For more information or to book services, contact Yanota at 403-562-7889 or go to www.homechekcnp.com.
