Homechek, a local business which arranges visits to people’s homes while they are out of town, has recently changed hands.
Former owner Florence Desaunoy sold the business to Nikki Yanota earlier this month, to allow her to pursue other projects.
“Change is good,” said Desaunoy. “This has always been a phrase that I have repeated to myself many times over the years.”
Desaunoy said the decision to sell the business was not an easy one, but finding someone whom she is confident will do a good job taking the reins assured her that it was the right choice to make.
Desaunoy created Homecheck just over five years ago, after she had heard of a similar business in another community.
“(I) realized that with the demographics here at home changing, and more people being away in the winter as well as those who have vacation homes here, this was a business that could have potential,” she said.
“Everyone needs a holiday, and when you are away, it is important to have someone reliable to keep an eye on things.”
She said there are many people who forget to lock the door to their home, leave the stove or other appliances on, and even extreme cases where the furnace quits working and causes water pipes to burst.
“Most insurance companies require that you have someone check your home while you are away,” she said. “So with that in mind, I wanted to offer that peace of mind and confidentiality so they could enjoy their holiday without worry.”
Desaunoy thanked all of her past and present clients for making Homechek a successful venture.
“I have met some really great people through this business, and knowing that I can help them in some small way has made this very enjoyable.”
