Coleman resident Otto Krug received the Order of the Crowsnest Pass award at the annual volunteer appreciation dinner on Thursday, April 14th at the Elks Hall in Blairmore.
The award has been handed out every year since 1983, in recognition of volunteers who dedicate years of service to the community.
“It’s a great honour,” Krug said in an interview with the Pass Herald, adding that he had no idea he would be getting the award. “It just about blew my socks off.”
Krug moved to the Crowsnest Pass in 1962, and said he began volunteering with various community organizations shortly after.
Krug has been a member of the Elks club for several years, having filled nearly every position in the organization, including two terms as Exalted Ruler.
During his time with the Elks, Krug has been involved with countless volunteer efforts, including starting up the dialysis unit at the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre.
“It was an unbelievable operation,” said Krug. “It was definitely one of the most satisfying things I have ever done.” |
Krug is also a lifetime honourary member of the Crow Snow Riders, and has dedicated much of his time in the past to grooming trails and other projects.
