The Bellevue branch of the Crowsnest Pass Public Library will close its doors on Friday, July 1st, following a unanimous vote by members of the Crowsnest Pass Library Board.
The board made the decision at its regular meeting on May 26th, following a lengthy evaluation which included an independent library review earlier this year by Library Planning Consultants, a firm from Calgary.
According to the board, the purpose of the review was to identify the best options for addressing development of the library’s needs for the next 20 years.
The recommendation to condense library services and inventories into one facility in Blairmore came as a result of the review, and subsequently the board also passed a second motion to employ a certified Library Technician at the Blairmore location. |
As part of the closure, the board will be amalgamating the two libraries’ extensive collections into one current and relevant collection which they hope will better serve the needs of the community.
According to the board, there are currently no plans to modify the staffing situation, although there is some possibility of enhancing community programs which are offered through the library, as well as the possibility of extended hours of operation.
The proposed date for closure of the Bellevue Library, which first opened at the MDM in 1960, is scheduled for July 1st, and the weeding out and combining of the two collections will continue throughout the summer months until the MDM location is completely vacated.
