Quote of the Week
"We'd rather have the sky full than stretch it out."
- Jamie Margetak
Blairmore Fire Chief

The Blairmore Fire Department will hold its 18th annual Thunder in the Valley fireworks display this Saturday, July 17th in Blairmore, in conjunction with the annual Rum Runner Days celebrations.
Blairmore Fire Chief Jamie Margetak said the fire department purchased hundreds of fireworks, approximately $30,000 worth, last week, and expects the show to run for 20 to 25 minutes.
“It could go a little longer, but we’d rather have the sky full than stretch it out,” said Margetak.
He said things have been changed a bit this year, with a few things dropped and a few more added.
“We’re just trying to mix it up a bit,” he said. “We’re going to have lots of fireworks… it should keep everybody on their feet for a good 25 (minutes).”
He said they will be using a new firing system this year, after being disappointed last year when several of the larger 10 and 12 inch fireworks failed to go off as a result of the firing system.

“Those are the ones that everybody likes, so it was a little disappointing,” said Margetak. “But we have a new firing system this year, so it should be a good show.”
Also this year, the fire department is making a huge show of support for Crowsnest Pass’ campaign for Pinkest Little Town in the West.
In addition to donating proceeds from T-shirt sales, the show will also feature a special Pinkest Town set piece.
“Everything is pretty well set to go,” said Margetak. “It should be a good one.”
The fireworks begin at 11 p.m. at the Isabelle Sellon School sports field.
