Crowsnest Pass Bylaw Enforcement Services will soon undergo an external audit, in order to examine existing enforcement practices with regard to the enforcement of provincial statutes and municipal bylaws.
The cost of the audit, which will be conducted by Transitional Solutions Inc., is not to exceed $7,000, and will come from the Municipal
Enforcement Budget.
At the regular Council meeting on August 16th, Crowsnest Pass Municipal Council passed a motion 6-1 in favour of conducting the audit, following a presentation from Director of Finance and
Systems Marion Vanoni, who stressed the need for an external audit.
“We do not have the expertise in-house to look at what enforcement is providing,” said Vanoni.
“We really do need to bring in external sources to be able to handle this audit efficiently, and in order to improve the service that we are providing to the community.”

Councillor Brian Gallant noted that he has received a number of complaints from residents who say they do not understand many of the existing bylaws.
“I would like to see the audit proceed as quickly as possible,” said Councillor
Mayor Bruce Decoux said Council has been planning a number of innovations throughout the community which were to be completed by the end of summer, but problems with bylaw compliance continue to halt progress.
“That’s unacceptable,” said Mayor Decoux. “We have to clear this up.”
Interim Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Robins told Council that a quarterly report is currently being prepared by Bylaw Officer Larry Iutzi for Council’s review, and while there has been a delay in preparing it, it will be provided to Council at the next regular meeting.
