Grant funding
Council received a letter from Municipal Affairs Minister Hector Goudreau, informing them that five municipal projects were successful in receiving Municipal
Sustainability Initiative (MSI) grant funding.
The projects include the 76th Street Water Main Replacement – a total estimated cost of $254,419 – SCADA System Migration ($164,482), 17th Avenue Infrastructure Replacement and Upgrade ($569,216), 16th Avenue Water Main Loop ($265,334), and the Frank Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade ($147,000).
Director of Operational Services Myron Thompson noted that Council still has to come up with an additional 25 per cent of the total cost for the water treatment plant upgrade.
The letter was received as information.

Orpheum sign to be restored
Council received an application from Orpheum Theatre Owner Becky Fabro for a matching heritage
conservation grant for the refurbishment of the theatre’s neon sign.

Half of the funds would come from the grant, and the other half would be put up by Fabro, in order to restore the old neon sign which sits above the marquee on the building’s exterior. Councillor Brian Gallant moved that Council support the application.
The motion was carried unanimously.

GPC meeting relocated
Council voted to move the August 23rd Governance and Priorities Committee meeting to the Coleman Seniors Centre.

Council meeting cancelled
Interim Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Robins suggested to Council that the August 30th Council meeting be cancelled, as at present there is not sufficient business to be conducted.
“If something urgent comes up, Council can call for a special meeting,” Robins added.
Council voted 5-2 in favour of cancelling the meeting, with Councillors Larry Mitchell and Andrew Saje opposed.
