Quote of the Week
"It is important to find a cure because (breast cancer) is becoming more and more common among younger women."
- Carol Wescott

Carol Wescott, the manager of the Blairmore CIBC branch, plans to shave her head on September 30th in hopes to raise $5,000 for breast cancer research.
She said she wanted to take part in the fundraiser because breast cancer affects a lot of people.
“A lot of people are touched by it in some way, whether they have it or they know somebody who does,” said Wescott.
“The money will go toward research to help those people who are dealing with it.”
The head shaving is just one of the ways the staff at CIBC are currently raising funds for the annual CIBC Run for the Cure, which takes place in
Lethbridge on Sunday, October 2nd.
Wescott said she has no doubt the branch will be successful in its attempt to raise the funds, and expects that her days of having hair are numbered.
She noted that Nathalie Hubinon, the branch’s Run for the Cure Champion, has been putting together several fundraisers which should help the branch meet its aggressive $5,000 goal.
Fundraising started at the end of June, including the sale of pop and water during the Thunder in the
Valley festivities, and Hubinon said efforts have really been ramped up in the last couple weeks.
She is also currently planning an in-branch barbeque to take place at the end of September, which will include a giveaway.
Hubinon said she has also sent out letters to several local business asking for their support through monetary donations.

So far, the branch has raised almost $1,000 in total, $300 of which has been raised as part of the head shaving.
The head shaving is expected to take place at 2 p.m. on Friday,
September 30th in the branch, and will be performed by a stylist from Side Street Stylz’s Hair Salon, who is donating their time for the event.
The staff of Side Street Stylz’s will also be collecting donations for the Run for the Cure for the next month. Wescott and Hubinon, along with fellow employees Vanessa Farraj and Shelly Osadan-Barlow will be taking part in the Run for the Cure.
“CIBC has been a strong supporter of the Run for the Cure for a long time,” said Wescott.
“The great thing is that the research which it funds is shared, so it is not just benefiting breast cancer research, but all cancers.”
“It is important to find a cure because it is becoming more and more common among younger women,” she said. “It’s affecting younger and younger women all the time.”
Donations will be collected from now until September 26th at Side Street Stylz’s and Blairmore CIBC, located at 12937 20th Avenue.
