Constable Jesse Morrison is the newest addition to the Crowsnest Pass RCMP, transferring from Fort Chipewyan, and replacing Constable Lorne Gopp, who has transferred to Pincher Creek.
The organizing committee of the Crowsnest Pass Music Festival announced last week that due to steady decline in the number of entries and retiring of several key festival committee members, the 2012 festival has been cancelled.
“A large part of what led to our decision was that our committee has shrunk to the point where it’s almost impossible to put on a festival,” said organizing committee Chair Jerry Lonsbury, adding that support from the community and local businesses was not a contributing issue.
Lonsbury said the four members of the six-person committee have indicated they will be unable to help with the festival this year.
“Some of them have been doing this for a very long time and it may be time for them to take a look at things and decide if they’re going to continue,” he said.

According to Lonsbury, several music festivals in Alberta have gone through a process of restructuring and have come back stronger.
He said he hopes to have a clearer picture of the future of the festival after an information session which will be held next month at the Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery in Frank.
The session will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 12th, and that those interested in committing to the development of music in the area are encouraged to attend.
Members of the current organizing committee have offered to support any new members during the transition period.
