The Boys and Girls Club of Crowsnest Pass had a fun day of swimming at the Max Bell Pool at the University of Lethbridge on Tuesday, January 31st during a full day excursion with the club. After swimming, the club travelled to the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod to learn about the history of music in film.
The Boys and Girls Club of Crowsnest Pass announced last week its plans to resume summer and after school programs in 2012.
Over the next few months, the club will be preparing for summer programs, as well as seeking a full-time
Program Director and part-time Administrative Assistant to have on board by May 1st, in time to prepare for summer programs.
In the past, the duties of both positions have been performed by the club’s program director, a position which was filled by Amanda Gail until the club was forced to suspend programs last fall due to funding issues.
“We feel that dividing the responsibilities among two staff will increase their ability to efficiently serve the kids of our community,” said club Secretary / Treasurer Scott Warris.
In addition to running summer programming, the new staff will prepare the club to resume after school programming for the 2012/2013 school year, something Warris said the club is very excited about.
The club will also soon begin advertising for two summer student jobs, to be performed by post-secondary students who will assist with summer programs from mid-June to the end of August.

In addition to hiring staff, the club is currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join its Board of Directors, as both Warris and Vice President Vern Harrison will be stepping down this year.
The club hopes to recruit parents and community members who are committed to offering safe, fun, educational and recreational activities to the youth of Crowsnest Pass.
Anyone interested in joining the board - as well as those with any questions - are encouraged to contact the club prior to the Annual General Meeting, which is currently scheduled for March 21st.
In other news, at its recent board meeting on Wednesday, January 25th, the board voted unanimously to forfeit child care licensing under which it has been operating for the past couple years.
“While child care licensing has its benefits, the board feels that such licensing is no longer in keeping with the vision and direction of the club,” said Warris.
