ATCO Gas came to Blairmore to celebrate 100 years of providing gas to Alberta, as part of the ATCO Gas 100 Days of Summer Centennial Tour.
The event, which saw close to 200 people, young and old, was held at the Blairmore Legion on Tuesday June 26th. Councillors Andrew Saje and Larry Mitchell were present at the event, which included a mascot, a clown, a BBQ dinner, two birthday cakes and a theatrical production titled “He’s Got The Pipes”.
The event was just one stop of 46 for the ATCO Gas tour, a tour that will venture across Alberta celebrating 100 years, and educating Albertans on gas and electricity in Alberta.
Part of the party included an ATCO bus filled with educational games and gadgets, primarily geared towards kids.
The bus will be featured at the Calgary Stampede, on July 6th through to July 15th. As to be expected, ATCO is expecting a lot of traffic through that leg of the Centennial Tour.

The 45 minute play that was put on by actors hired by ATCO featured both humor and information, and took the audience through the timeline of ACTO Gas, how the company started up.
“The party is to celebrate 100 years of business,” said Alan Dixon, Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer for ATCO Gas.
He explained that Blairmore joined the ATCO Gas team in 1962. Before then, homes in the area were heated by coal, which was plentiful here but following the formation of a pipeline that ran along Highway 22, homes switched to gas.
The party included the opportunities for visitors to enter ATCO Gas’s Heat your Home for a Year contest. Dixon reminds anyone who did not enter the contest at the party to enter online at A new name is drawn every month, and winners receive free gas, provided by ATCO Gas, to their homes for 12 months.
