The 70.2-acre parcel located south of West Coleman was approved for rezoning at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
In February, Green Mountain Co. made a proposal to the municipality to rezone the area and to allow development of a campground. The Pacific Railway to the north, and the Highway 3 by-pass to the south border the land, which is divided in half by the Crowsnest River. .
There are no direct residential or commercial neighbours to the land and Green Mountain Co. already controls most of the surrounding land.
Water will be supplied by cistern and distributed by an internal pipe system. The site will also be serviced with power and a sewer system.
“I think it’s an excellent project,” said Mayor Decoux, in an interview outside of council. “It will bring a lot of tourists to the Pass, and that will have a positive impact on the community,” he said, adding that he believes this will be a good move for the municipality.

The project is expected to bring $400,00 annually into the Crowsnest Pass, averaging a total usage of about six person days per week with each person spending around $50 a day.
Green Mountain Co. is planning on leasing the lots on a yearly basis, and will allow approximately 10 units when built out.
The Crowsnest River will be treated in an environmentally sensitive manner, as initial talk has already taken place with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans liaisons consultant who has offered preliminary advice on the likely requirements for road and campsites setbacks from the Crowsnest Pass River.
The area is guaged to change over time into residential buildings.
