The Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery is gearing up for a busy winter season, starting with their annual winter show, which will be showcasing talent from Crowsnest Pass and surrounding areas.

The winter show, called “No Particular Topic” will open on Saturday, February 1st, with a reception taking place from 1-3 p.m. Admission is free.

Also at the gallery will be ‘The Art of the Travel Journal’ with Jean Blackall, on Saturday, February 15th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The course is designed for all artists, beginners to experts.

According to a CNP Art Gallery Press Release, “Art journaling is a big part of many artists’ process. Inspiration can strike anytime. You might read a poem, watch a movie, see the colour of those fall trees on your way to work, hear a piece of melody that touches you, or a great idea comes to mind in the middle of the night. These are all moments worth recording.”

The cost of the class is $50/person with a minimum of 6 participants.

Social Dancing 101 with Rebecca Dewey is back by popular demand. All classes will run at the art gallery, three Saturday’s in a row, from 7-9 p.m. The first will be the Argentine Tango, seductive social dance, on February 8th, the Merengue, a Latin dance, on February 15th and the Lindy Hop, original swing dance, on Feburary 22nd.

Also coming up just around the corner is the annual Chili Bowl Festival on February 8th, starting from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

“A week into the preparations and we’ve already had an amazing amount of people volunteering their tasty chili, cookies and their time to help out with the event,” said a press release from the Art Gallery. “The Pottery Club has already been busy with the making of chili bowls and we are very excited to host this event, as the whole community looks forward to it.”

The cost for the Chili Bowl Festival is $12 for adults and $7 for children aged ten and under. All participants are invited to keep their bowls.

The Crowsnest Pass Music Festival has been confirmed to happen this year, taking place March 11th-16th. For entry forms and information regarding this year's adjudicators, go to www.crowsnestpassmusicfestival.com
