Art is said to be defined in the eye of the beholder. Blairmore is the home of a new art studio, the Artist Collective Studio.
Nichole Yanota, Charlotte Catchpole and Deirdre Earl have been setting up a studio for just over a month. Located at 13231, 20th ave in Blairmore, the studio will be open soon to the community.
On Saturday, May 3rd, the studio is hosting a figure drawing session.
Nichole Yanota, one of the organizers, said they will open the space to workshops for the community.
“We are interested in doing some information sharing. I like to think of it as opening up a family of artists. Where the space is used for more of a social atmosphere than a teaching atmosphere.”
The ideas and dreams of the artists are still developing as time goes by. They would like to continue hosting workshops to help build the skills of anyone in the community.
“I think it is just going to have to develop as we are in the space longer,” said Yanota.

All the artists in the studio practice the visual arts. On May 3rd, anyone interested in figure drawing is asked to call ahead and make a reservation.
“It is not so much an open house, as the first time we are opening the studio to outside people besides the three of us. It is an open drawing session, which means open study. So it is not teaching and it is not guided. There is going to be a model and chairs, after that it is open to interpretation,” said Yanota.
The studio asks that anyone interested bring your own medium to the session.
“People need to bring their chosen mediums and their own materials, whatever they like to work with. We do have some reference books here if they want to look at some figure drawing, and see how other people are approaching figure drawing,” said Yanota.
The session starts at 7. P.M on May 3rd, anyone interested is asked to contact Nichole at 403-562-7889.
