On June 3, council agreed to auction off a portion of the failed 52-acre River Run development adjacent to the Crowsnest River in Blairmore.
In 2005, Bridge Creek Development acquired the land from the municipality intending to create a housing project called River Run.
Bridge Creek had originally proposed the development of an upscale hotel, executive townhouses and family homes on the expanse of land. Three hundred and eleven lots were created out of the 52-acres.
None of the developments had been completed when the company declared bankruptcy in 2010.

The Municipal Government Act states that 280 of the lots can be auctioned off as nobody has paid taxes on them.
CAO Sheldon Steinke says council has prepared a list of parcels being put up for sale and created a briefing note for potential buyers explaining the lack of services, legal transportation routes and utilities on the parcels.
“The note explains that if you want to bid on it, you’re going to get a chunk of dirt,” says Steinke.
The public auction is scheduled for October but if no buyers are found, the municipality will end up being the trustee of this land.
Steinke is unsure what will be done with the parcels that are not up for sale and that the municipality has no plans to develop the land.
