A special meeting was held on Thursday, June 4th to gauge the interest of people in the Crowsnest Pass regarding a Marquee Summer Event for 2016.
The meeting was held at the Elk Hall with about 40 people in attendance, members of council and Lyle Hannan, Director of Community Services.
The meeting began with an open discussion from the gallery regarding what kind of event they would like to see as a Marquee Event for the Crowsnest Pass.
Ideas ranged from a Car Rally, to some sort of fireworks event, a Saskatoon Berry Festival and a Musical Festival either at the Pass PowderKeg Ski Hill or the Hillcrest Ball Diamond Complex.
While the ideas flowed fast a furious, Marilyn Liddell (check spelling), a member of the gallery, cautioned people to make sure the new event did not conflict with already established programs such as Doors Open and Heritage Festival or Bellecrest or Canada Days. “I’m not opposed to another festival but remember what we already have and don’t step on any toes of events that are already happening.”

A new resident to the area commented. “If you do something in the area, make sure it’s authentic and true to the location by keeping in mind who lives here and what fits best for us all”.
After a group discussion, members of the gallery broke into groups for ‘think tanks’ gathering thoughts and putting ideas onto paper.
Councillor Shar Cartwright and Hannan will pull all the information together and present it to council.
Council was quick to state that they are open minded, not locked into any particular event. They want to see what new and innovative ideas people can come up with.
According to Councillor Ward the next step of the process is to do a survey as a means of garnering more public input and help.
Any event, if any, is planned for 2016.
