On July 20 at around 10 p.m., a masked robber entered the Best Canadian Motor Inn in Coleman and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Crowsnest Pass RCMP is reporting that the suspect was chased away by a motel guest but was not apprehended.
“The guest was brave to do such a thing,” said Cst. Kelly Willett of the Crowsnest RCMP. “But was not particularly concerned with his safety at the time.”

He added that it was unusual to have an incident involving a masked robber in the Pass and that police have brought in a canine unit to help in the ongoing investigation.

Willett said citizens should immediately contact the police if they are witnessing a crime but to avoid intervening. He also said witnesses could attempt to keep a visual of the suspect from a safe distance and to remember as many physical characteristics about them as possible including their height, build and clothing.

BCMI was founded in 1974 in Fort McMurray and has since opened hotels across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
