After three years serving the community, Community Peace Officer Vincent Duguay will be leaving the Pass and joining the RCMP.

“I’ve been here since the program started,” he said. “I’ve met some good people, made some good friends but now I’m moving forward in the career path I’ve chosen.”

Duguay also worked for the City of Cold Lake as a CPO. In 2012, the Pass Herald reported that his term of employment was expected to last from “one to three months, with a possible extension.”

That lengthy extension has come to an end and now Duguay will be traveling to Regina, SK for six months of training.

From there the RCMP can send him anywhere in the country for another six months of field training but Duguay says he wouldn’t mind being posted somewhere in Southern Alberta.

“I’ve been in Alberta for most of my life so I wouldn’t mind coming back and if I could be sent back around this area, that would be great,” he said.

The municipality will be without a CPO through August and September and the RCMP and the Alberta Sheriff’s department will be stepping up traffic patrolling on Highway 3.
