The Super Value parking lot was transformed into a small educational function concerning bears on Wednesday august 12th.

Children were given the opportunity to learn species, dangers and contact prevention techniques.

The event was hosted by the, Crowsnest Conservation Bear Smart program together with the Boys and Girls Club.
“We coloured pictures of bears, wrote stuff about what to do when we see bears and learned that garbage might bring them into town.” One of the children said.

This is the third session they have done this year as well as some sessions last year. There was coloring, other artwork and even a bear skull which one of the children eagerly pointed out to me was from a black bear.

“It helps the kids learn important information about bears,” said Elizabeth Anderson with Crowsnest Conservation Bear Smart.

After being offered a temporary bear paw tattoo by one of the kids, Alexis Bohmer, Program Leader for the Boys and Girls Club, acknowledged the act of kindness saying, “our theme this week for B.G.C. is, pay it forward. So we thought helping to educate the public about bears was a good way to do that.”

This was the last Bear Smart program this summer but the kids enjoyed it and I’m sure we’ll see this great educational program back again next year.
