Anthrax scare at post office
Crowsnest Pass Herald Front Page
Firefighters enter back of Coleman post office.
EZRA BLACK
Pass Herald Reporter
On March 17, a suspicious package containing powder was found in a storage bin at the post office in Coleman.

Fearing it was anthrax, two postal workers exited the building, barred the doors to prevent anyone from entering and contacted police.

The RCMP attended the scene and consulted an explosive disposal team from Edmonton.

RCMP Sgt. Greg Weibe said they determined the suspicious substance was not in fact anthrax and was probably a powder that is used to keep static down in magazines.

Fire/Rescue also attended and one firefighter who has military training in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear defense (CBRN) was a valuable asset in making sure everything was okay, said Weibe.

The substance was disposed of as precaution.
