The 14th annual Festival of Stars was held at M.D.M in Bellevue on Saturday April 9. Members and students from Turning Pointe Dance Studio (TPDS) were lighting up the stage with a variety of dance styles and techniques that wowed the crowd and revealed just how much talent and dedication the young performers were capable of. The Crowsnest Dance Festival Society hosts the event, which brought in a 200 person audience, in preparation for competition season and to help raise funds for the students to get to competitions.

Tara Groves is the Owner and Artistic director of TPDS and has a long history of dance and competitions under her belt. She is assisted by Christina Samson, Candace Howells, Meghan Morency, Koral Lazzarotto, Rebecca Dewey and others who make up a very hard working, determined team that bring the show to life.

"This show just features the students that do solos, duos or small groups that go away to compete at competition. There are about 50-65 students that participate in the Festival of Stars We then take the rest of the students from the studio to compete with groups which is around 120 students." Said Groves.

TPDS performs and competes in Lethbridge mostly but this year plan on doing their first Calgary competition. " We thought it would be a good challenge for them. We explain to the kids that they are very strong dancers, they do well and can compete at pretty high levels but they may very well see kids that are stronger dancers.

We want them to understand that going out there, doing your best and doing what you can do is rewarding, we remind them that they are very prepared and capable. I have done a lot of shows and competitions and have never seen such a dedicated group of kids although we still want them to experience the higher level competition, that's why we chose to expand on the competitions we participate in."

Groves and the students of TPDS will be having a year end show on May long weekend at the University of Lethbridge and registration for TPSD begins on Wedneday June 1. Anyone interested in registration or checking out the year end show is welcome and urged to participate.
