The new manager at Royal Bank of Canada’s Crowsnest branch brings a wealth of experience to the job.

Vanessa Farraj has been a business owner and manager. She owned a hotel in Melville, Sask, for some years, she’s managed the Crowsnest Tim Horton’s and signage companies. She’s even worked in banks.

Now in her second week at her new job at RBC, Farraj wants to see her clients prosper and the community thrive.

Her duties include overseeing operations, minimizing risk for her clients and managing staff, she says.

“My greatest satisfaction is seeing my staff succeeding and being happy in their work environment,” she says.

Farraj has an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Calgary and has taken a few management courses.

She says the financial industry is changing rapidly. New ways of banking online mean that RBC is no longer, “your grandfather’s bank,” but financial responsibility is as important as ever.

“[Money] is a huge part of your life,” she says. “And we just like to try and make things easier so you can focus on the things that matter.”
