CANADA DAY events in Coleman
Crowsnest Pass Herald Front Page
Coleman Community Society
Canada Day is almost here and as usual the Coleman Community Society, in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion #9 in Coleman, the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass, the Crowsnest/Pincher Creek Landfill Association and Canadian Heritage, will once again be holding the annual Canada Day festivities. This year the theme is “Women’s Suffrage” – the journey of 5 Alberta women who fought for the rights of women to vote, to own and inherit property and to eventually officially be name “Persons”.

Friday, July 1st, 2016, kicks off at the Legion for a hearty pancake breakfast, served from 8 until 10 AM, and continues with the annual Canada Day Parade. Floats and riders are asked to line up at Horace Allen School with walkers and bicycles lining up at the park at 10 AM so judging may be done before the parade begins at 11 and ending at the Legion.

Immediately following the parade the Cranbrook Bugle Band will be performing in front of the Legion and this year will be giving us a sneak preview of their entry to the Calgary Stampede Showband Competition. The Coleman Legion will then have the flag raising and official Canada Day ceremonies beginning at noon, where the afternoon will be filled with other activities including food and music.

At Flumerfelt Park Astro Jump will be set up beginning at noon and going until 4 PM and for those who need to cool off after the morning, the water park will be running all day. The park will be a hive of activity with entertainment, games and intermittent presentations from “The Famous Five. There will be concession stands and special Canada Day cakes will be served at the shelter.

NIT will have their mini-train running throughout the afternoon, with free tickets available only at Flumerfelt Park. The train will run from 2 to 4 July 1st, so get your tickets and join in the fun at NIT in Blairmore.

The day does not end there, however, as the Coleman Society, in partnership with Crowsnest CanDo and Scotiabank are holding the 2nd Annual Hog Heaven Pig Roast in front of the Coleman Sports Complex.

This year there will also be turkey and beef brisket on a limited, first come, first served basis. Supper begins at 5 PM with the last serving at 6:30 so get your tickets now, available at Blairmore Scotiabank until June 30th and if available, at the park or the door on Canada Day.

Come out and help us make Canada Day 2016 one to remember. For more information you can call Jane Ann at 403-563-5408 or Francine at 403-563-3458. See you at Canada Day 2016.
