The last “Weed Wednesday” event put on by the Agriculture and Environmental Services team this weed season will be taking place August 17.

These events are intended to control weed populations, specifically in riparian areas, and also to inform and engage the community in the areas of riparian health and invasive species management.

The event, which will include a free BBQ and prizes, will be held on Aug. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. Volunteers will be pulling weeds and aiding in the riparian health of the Crowsnest River in the Trout Unlimited Conservation Lease in Hillcrest.

“The event is suitable for any age or ability and participants will be provided all necessary gear but if you have your own favourite weed pulling gloves, please bring them along,” said Laura MacKinnon, seasonal weed inspector. “Also, you do not have to be present for the entire event; any amount of time you have to offer in these efforts is greatly appreciated.”
