On Thursday night a sign in Blairmore’s Lion’s Park was vandalized says Don Harvey, president of the Blairmore Lions Club.

Harvey says the sign was ripped down from where it was bolted to a chain link fence sometime Wednesday night or Thursday morning when he found it and placed it in storage for safekeeping. He estimates it would cost $1000 to replace.

Harvey said he would report the incident to the RCMP.

“Every year we get vandals,” said Harvey. “It costs us extra money.”

In another apparent act of vandalism, Ryan Peebles reported that all the books from his free outdoor library were thrown all over his front lawn at about 2 a.m. on Thursday.

The free library, one of dozens installed this summer as part of the Little Free Library project, is located behind the Cost Less Foods on main street in Blairmore.

The Rose Peddler Flowers and Gifts reported that their outdoor display of potted flowers was damaged Friday night. It appears someone tried pushing an outdoor planter on its side, damaging a wheel at its base, and then pulled up its flowers.

“I guess this is why we can’t have nice things,” said a Rose Peddler spokesperson.
