Jason Kenney called the Alberta NDP a socialist government. He said half their MLAs are student radicals who have no experience outside academia. He said he could lead the PCs into mergers talks with the Wildrose Party and then he tucked into a pulled pork sandwich.

“Somebody has to get the ball rolling,” said Kenney to small group of citizens who joined him for lunch at Popiels Restaurant in Coleman on Sept. 29.

The potential Progressive Conservative leader outlined a five-point plan to unite the PCs and Wildrose. First, he wants to win the PC leadership race. Second, he’d enter into negotiations with the Wildrose Party to create a united party.

Third, he’d hold a referendum involving both parties on a unity agreement. Fourth, he’d create the united party and fifth, he’d hold another leadership election for the new united party.

Kenney had sharp criticisms for Alberta’s NDPs who he blames for exacerbating Alberta’s economic slowdown.

“A lot of good people are being crowded out by this system with a socialist government screwing up our economy,” he said. “These people never thought they’d be in government. They were all just as surprised as anyone else. My concern is we could sleepwalk into a second term and that would be a disaster.”
