This is a newly formed position in which Bohmer will oversee various aspects of development: building and electrical permits, plumbing and gas, rezoning. He is also responsible for enforcing development bylaws and checking building permits for safety codes.
Originally from the Pass, Bohmer moved away for his studies after completing high school. In that time, he completed Construction Engineering Technology at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton. He is certified as a construction engineer and technologist, a journeyman carpenter and a journeyman millwright. He is also qualified as a Level 1 building and plumbing official.
Bohmer has approximately 13 years of experience working in municipal government in Alberta and British Columbia. He worked as a development officer with the city of Penticton and a superintendent of public works with the City of Merritt. His most recent position, where he spent six years, was with the district of Sparwood as a director of operations.
Bohmer is glad to be working closer to home. “I get to give back to the community that I grew up in,” he says. “I think that’s important. I think with my experience and some of the situations that I’ve been in in the past, it’d be a good benefit for this organization.”
