There will be limited or restricted access to 129th street in Blairmore as the municipality begins road repairs and rehabilitation.

The work involves replacing underground water, wastewater and storm mains. Portions of the sidewalk will be repaired or replaced along with paving of the roadway.

“The utility mains are aged and the majority of them are in need of replacement. Also, the road is in need of repair with a few localized areas needing full depth replacement and the remainder needing an overlay to protect it,” says Patrick Thomas, Director of Development, Engineering & Operations with the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass. “If we’re going to repair the road and we know that the mains are at that point of age, it makes sense to do work on them now, rather than put new asphalt on and in two to three years, do work on the mains.”

Roadwork begins with saw cutting the asphalt at the limits of construction on the week of June 5 and the entire project is expected to take two to three months to complete. Excavation work should begin next week at the intersection of 19th avenue and 129th street and will advance north to Highway 3 from there.

Depending on crew activities, there will be periodic times where road use and access will be limited or restricted.

Thomas advises the public to slow down, use caution when workers are present, respect detour signage and work in cooperation with crews and the municipality to complete this project.
