The Crowsnest Pass Parks and Recreation Authority has released a survey designed to help the municipality plan for a potential dog park in the community.

“The planning team developed these after analyzing dog off-leash areas, reviewing historical materials, looking at what other North American cities are doing, reviewing historical work and input, and talking with our Parks and Recreation Authority,” indicated the survey preface.

The survey consisted of 19 questions about five key areas: design and amenities, boundaries, access, variety of parks and stewardship. Each section was prefaced with a description about the topic and presented key recommendations from the Parks and Rec Authority.

“It’s part of the process to make the best choices for where the first and potentially subsequent dog parks could be placed,” says Joey O’Brien, Manager of Community Services. “We did all our internal work about which places we think are best suited and now we measure it against what our citizens say. It’s a way of making sure that we are making the right choices.”

The survey launched on August 2 and closed on August 15. The Parks and Recreation Authority will now review the responses and design draft recommendations to present to Council.

“We assimilate the data and it goes in front of the Rec Board for them to review it at a meeting and recommend suggestions,” says O’Brien. “If there is budget space, our Council may consider it this year. If there is not budget space, then we put it into the calendar for next year.”
