We’ve officially hit Remembrance Day.

This year, my Remembrance Day will look different than previous ones and I’m sure that’s the case for many people.

With Covid-19 numbers picking up around the province, many Remembrance Day services will be limited to invite only.

In previous years, I would head to the Lethbridge cenotaph located outside the Yates theatre in the downtown with my family for the outdoor service.

Many years, that service included a flyover, which when I was younger was easily the highlight.

This year, Remembrance Day services in Lethbridge are invite only meaning I won’t be standing at the cenotaph this year.

I will be sure to still visit a local cenotaph in the Crowsnest Pass to pay my respects but it will just be a different experience than what I’m used to.

I’ve always thought Remembrance Day is a very important day to be recognized.

Without the soldiers who risk their lives for our freedom, we would be living very different lives right now.

Part of my respect views on Remembrance Day can be linked to my time in Social Studies in high school.

My Social Studies teacher would always highlight the importance of it and we would always spend a class or two learning about the different wars that Canadians and so many others fought in.

I also loved drawing Remembrance Day posters in school.

It was one of the few things that I really took my time at when it came to artistic work because again, I felt the importance of respecting those who fought for us.

I hope that even though we can’t remember in ways we may usually have, we all take time to remember all those who fought for our freedom.

They gave us their lives, we can give them a day in remembrance.
