Dr. David Edgeworth embraces full-scope practice and outdoor lifestyle in his new role.

The Crowsnest Pass has welcomed Dr. David Edgeworth, a new family doctor and anaesthesiologist, whose multifaceted role is already making a significant impact on the community. Balancing responsibilities in emergency care, anaesthesia, and family medicine, Dr. Edgeworth is also working to reintroduce obstetrical care to the area, a service that has been absent for several years.

Edgeworth, whose grandfather grew up in Bellevue, feels a deep connection to the Pass.

“I ended up coming to the Pass… my grandpa actually grew up in Bellevue, and so I was here when I was a kid, a little bit, and kind of fell in love with it there,” he said, “When I was doing my anesthesia training last year, a position for an anaesthetist opened here, and it was an easy decision to make. I already knew many of the doctors working here, and they encouraged me to join.”

His work in the community spans many critical areas.

“As the community’s anaesthesiologist, I’m keeping the operating room running, providing anesthesia for surgeries and endoscopies, and managing critical care situations. I’m also helping to get an obstetrics program restarted here,” Edgeworth explained.

The addition of a full-time anaesthesiologist has streamlined operating room scheduling, reducing reliance on temporary locums and keeping more patients local for their procedures.

“Up until the time that I came, we were kind of dependent on anesthesia locums to come through, which made it challenging to have a busy operating room and to keep people local for their surgeries,” he said.

Edgeworth is optimistic about the return of obstetrical services, noting that having an anaesthesiologist in the community is essential for running a safe program.

“It’s something that’s been missing for years, and we’re all excited to bring it back,” he said.

In addition to his professional contributions, Edgeworth has embraced life in the Pass, immersing himself in the region’s outdoor activities, including skiing, biking, and fishing. He’s also joined the local search and rescue team and serves as the team physician for the Crowsnest Pass Crush.

“Getting involved in the community has been incredibly rewarding,” he said.

Reflecting on the role, Edgeworth expressed his enthusiasm for the work ahead.

“I’m just looking forward to keeping things going, getting to know more of the families in town, and being part of this community,” he said.

With his dedication and expertise, Dr. Edgeworth is poised to become an integral part of healthcare and community life in the Crowsnest Pass.
