Accounts to move to Pincher Creek; bank plans letters, signage and an October info meeting
CIBC will close its Blairmore Banking Centre on Feb. 5, 2026 at 1 p.m., moving client accounts to its Pincher Creek branch about 46 kilometres away.
“Effective Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., we will close our Blairmore Banking Centre located at 12937 20th Ave, Blairmore AB, T0K 0E0 and merge client accounts with our Pincher Creek Banking Centre, located at 762 Main St, Pincher Creek AB, T0K1W0, approximately 45.8 kilometres away,” wrote Andrea Willows, CIBC’s market vice president for personal banking. “A notice to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) regarding this closure has been submitted.”
CIBC framed the decision as the result of a network review and said client and staff impacts are top of mind.
“Our clients and our team members are our priority,” Willows wrote. “Client banking records and accounts will be transferred automatically to support a smooth transition and ensure continuity of service. As well, every effort will be made to transfer CIBC team members to our Pincher Creek Banking Centre or to other CIBC locations.”
Over the coming weeks and months, the bank plans to notify clients by letter, post signs at the Blairmore site, provide notices during in person visits and make outreach calls to high priority, business banking, safety deposit box holders and senior clients.
“Notification letters will be sent to existing clients on September 30, 2025,” Willows wrote. The bank also said it will host a community information meeting in October where clients can ask questions about the merger.
During the transition clients can continue to bank by mobile, online, at ATMs and at other CIBC locations. The bank noted federal oversight of branch closures may include formal consultation.
“The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) has the authority to ask CIBC to hold a formal meeting between the bank, representatives of the FCAC and interested parties near the Banking Centre,” the notice said, adding that individuals or community representatives can write to the FCAC commissioner to request such a meeting.
CIBC said details about the October information meeting will be shared with clients in the coming weeks.
